DSCC’s Tk 4,004cr budget targets cleaner, flood-free Dhaka

The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) on Thursday announced a Tk 4,004.60 crore budget for FY2026-27, pledging to improve drainage, curb dengue, enhance civic services and ensure balanced urban development without imposing any additional tax burden on residents.

Presenting the budget at Nagar Bhaban, DSCC Administrator Abdus Salam said the financial plan had been prepared on realistic and implementable grounds rather than setting overly ambitious targets.

The budget, themed around the vision of building a “Clean City, Green City”, seeks to improve financial discipline while expanding the quality of public services across the capital’s southern zone.

“We have tried to prepare a realistic and implementable budget instead of an overly ambitious one,” Abdus Salam said.

He said the city corporation has explored new avenues to increase its own revenue while reducing unnecessary expenditure to strengthen financial sustainability.

According to the administrator, the highest priority has been given to ensuring balanced development throughout the city, addressing chronic waterlogging, strengthening dengue control measures, reducing environmental pollution, improving roads and traffic management, and enhancing civic amenities and municipal services.

Describing the budget as a commitment to taxpayers, he said public funds would be managed with the highest standards of transparency, accountability and efficiency.

“This budget is not merely an account of income and expenditure; it reflects the sacred responsibility and trust entrusted to us by the taxpayers. We are committed to ensuring that every taka is spent with the highest standards of transparency, accountability and efficiency for the welfare of the people,” he said.

Abdus Salam also sought cooperation from the Local Government Division, development partners, public and private organisations, civil society, the media, the business community and residents to ensure successful implementation of the budget.

The FY2026-27 budget, approved at the 14th meeting of the corporation on July 26, totals Tk 4,004.60 crore, compared with the original Tk 3,841.38 crore budget for FY2025-26. The revised budget for the outgoing fiscal year stands at Tk 3,138.77 crore.
