China reaffirms commitment to stronger Bangladesh ties

China has reaffirmed its commitment to further strengthening its strategic partnership with Bangladesh, describing the two countries as trustworthy friends, neighbours and partners while pledging to expand cooperation across all sectors.
Speaking at a reception marking the 99th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) in Dhaka on Thursday evening, Chinese Defence Attaché Senior Colonel Du Xinsheng said relations between the two countries had entered a new phase following Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s visit to China in June 2026.
Addressing senior Bangladeshi government and military officials, diplomats and distinguished guests, Du said the two nations had agreed during the visit to build a “China-Bangladesh community with a shared future in the new era”, elevating bilateral ties to a higher strategic level.
“It is not merely a phrase. It marks the elevation of China-Bangladesh relations beyond the existing cooperation framework to a new strategic height featuring mutual trust, shared interests, interdependence and mutual support in both good and difficult times,” he said.
The Defence Attaché said China and Bangladesh had been practising the principles of mutual respect, equality, mutual benefit and win-win cooperation, setting an example of friendly state-to-state relations.
“China has consistently pursued a good neighbourly and friendly policy toward all the people of Bangladesh. No matter how the international situation may evolve, China will remain firmly committed to the overall direction of China-Bangladesh friendship and will always be a trustworthy good friend, good neighbour and good partner of Bangladesh,” he said.
He added that Beijing was willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Bangladesh in all fields.
Highlighting China’s foreign policy, Du said the country remained committed to peaceful development and a defensive national defence policy while supporting international cooperation to address global challenges.
He said China would continue to uphold the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and remain “a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development, and an upholder of the international order.”
The Chinese military, he said, was ready to deepen practical exchanges and cooperation with armed forces around the world, enhance mutual trust, jointly address global security challenges and contribute to regional and global peace.
The reception was attended by Defence Adviser to the Prime Minister AKM Shamsul Islam, Adviser to the Prime Minister Md Ismail Zabiullah, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen, senior military officers, diplomats and other invited guests.
In his remarks, Defence Advisor AKM Shamsul Islam highly praised the achievements of the PLA’s modernization and the traditional friendship between China and Bangladesh, expressing gratitude for China’s support and assistance toward Bangladesh’s defence development.
The guests spoke highly of the accomplishments in the building of the Chinese armed forces and wished for the construction of a China-Bangladesh community with a shared future in the new era to reach a higher level.
The event also commemorated the 90th anniversary of the victory of the Long March of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army.
Du described the Long March as a symbol of perseverance and determination, saying its spirit continued to inspire China’s efforts to overcome challenges and contribute to human progress.
