AC Land withdrawn over forged letter in Dy speaker’s name

The Ministry of Public Administration has withdrawn Assistant Commissioner (Land) Shaon Majumder Sumon from his post following allegations that a forged semi-official letter bearing the name of the deputy speaker was used to seek improper benefits.

The decision was announced in a ministry notification issued on Monday, July 27.

Shaon Majumder, who was serving at the Rangabali Upazila Land Office in Patuakhali, has been attached to the Ministry of Public Administration with immediate effect.

The notification said the order was issued in the public interest under a presidential directive.

Earlier, the Parliament Secretariat said it had learned that a forged DO letter carrying the deputy speaker’s purported signature, official letterhead, government logo and memorandum number had been submitted to several ministries and departments to obtain improper benefits.

The secretariat clarified that the letter had not been issued by parliament and that the legislature had no connection with it.

It also instructed the relevant authorities to take legal action against those involved.

The Parliament Secretariat urged government and private institutions, media organisations and other concerned parties to verify the authenticity of any DO letter issued in parliament’s name before accepting or acting on it.
