Professional hitman hired for BNP worker murder: DB
Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) police have solved the murder of Jubo Dal worker Md. Yusuf Ali (45), who was shot dead in the Kafrul Thana area of the capital, and arrested 7 people including the shooter involved.
The chief planner behind the sensational killing was identified as Hafizur Rahman Hafiz alias CNG Hafiz, who hired a professional hitman under a 25-lakh-taka contract to kill a rival.
Details of the case resolution and the arrests were presented at a press conference held Monday afternoon at the DMP Media Center on Minto Road in the capital.
Those arrested in connection with this high-profile killing are: Md. Nahid Hasan (21), Md. Shafin Ahmed (22), Md. Ziarul Molla (39), Md. Ali Hossain (45), Md. Jihad Molla (30), Md. Masum Billah (28), and Md. Abir Howlader (25).
According to DB’s Mirpur Division, around 11:15 PM on Friday, July 24, several armed men opened fire near the link road on the south side of Opex Garments under Kafrul Police Station, hitting Jubo Dal worker Md. Yusuf Ali along with vegetable vendor Nalam Sardar and Md. Monir Hossain. Locals rescued them and took them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the attending physician declared Yusuf Ali dead. Nalam Sardar and Monir Hossain remain under treatment.
During initial DB interrogation, the arrested suspects said chief planner Hafizur Rahman Hafiz alias CNG Hafiz hired a professional hitman for 25 lakh taka to kill his rival, Hafizul Islam Babu.
As part of the plan, on June 29, hitmen Hasan, Ziarul, Chanchal, Jihad, and 2-3 unidentified others came to Dhaka and met with CNG Hafiz. They subsequently stayed in room 714 of Baishakhi Hotel in the Mirpur-10 area before gathering at CNG Hafiz’s garage.
That day, the accused went near the office of their target, Hafizul Islam Babu, to identify him, and after receiving an advance of 50,000 taka from CNG Hafiz, returned to their respective areas.
DB sources further said that on the night of the incident, Hafizul Islam Babu was standing outside his office with party leaders and workers. Several unfamiliar individuals aroused suspicion, and when their identities were questioned, an attempt was made to search them.
At that point, one of the accused pulled out a pistol and opened fire, fatally shooting Jubo Dal worker Yusuf in the chest. Further legal proceedings against the arrested individuals are underway.
