BNP’s Rafiqul undergoes ‘successful’ surgery
BNP Standing Committee member and former minister Rafiqul Islam Miah remains in critical condition despite undergoing what doctors described as a successful esophageal surgery at a city hospital.
The operation was carried out on Saturday by a medical board at Evercare Hospital, said his personal political secretary, Moksedur Rahman Abir, on Sunday.
“The doctors successfully completed the esophageal surgery. He is still on life support and his condition remains critical,” Abir told UNB.
He said the veteran BNP leader will remain under close medical observation for the next 72 hours, adding that physicians have advised waiting before making any assessment of his recovery.
Abir also said Rafiqul Islam Miah’s two sons have returned to Bangladesh from abroad to be with him.
