Measles claims 4 more lives
Four more children with symptoms consistent with measles died in the 24 hours until 8:00am on Sunday, raising Bangladesh’s combined total of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths to 820.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the latest fatalities have been classified as suspected measles deaths.
With the latest update, the number of suspected measles deaths has climbed to 725, while the number of laboratory-confirmed deaths remains unchanged at 95. During the reporting period, 990 new suspected measles cases were recorded, taking the nationwide total to 123,753.
The DGHS also reported 170 new laboratory-confirmed measles infections, bringing the cumulative number of confirmed cases to 15,442.
Since March 15, a total of 106,239 patients with suspected measles have been admitted to hospitals across the country. Of them, 102,467 have recovered, according to DGHS data.
