Ex-Army officer Mozaffar taken to ICT

Former Bangladesh Army officer Mozaffar Hossain was brought before the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Thursday in connection with a case over alleged crimes against humanity during the July mass uprising.

Mozaffar was taken to ICT-2 at around 9:20am and later placed in the tribunal’s lock-up, according to officials.

The tribunal on July 21 ordered authorities to produce him beforethe court following an application by Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam.

The case, Miscellaneous Case No. 1/26, was filed by the chief prosecutor, with retired Lieutenant General Masud Uddin Chowdhury, former lawmaker from Feni-3, also named as an accused.

The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police said Mozaffar, who had allegedly remained absconding for 45 years over accusations linked to the assassination of former president Ziaur Rahman, was arrested from a residence in Banani, Dhaka, on the night of July 15.

He was later handed over to military police at Dhaka Cantonment.
Mozaffar, a former major of the Bangladesh Army, is now 77 years old.
