Passport correction facility extended
The government has extended the deadline for issuing and reissuing passports with corrected information for Bangladeshi citizens staying abroad for more than six months.
According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the special facility will remain effective until December 31.
The ministry said the extension was granted considering public interest and to ensure uninterrupted passport services for expatriate Bangladeshis.
Under the new decision, Bangladeshi citizens living abroad can apply for new or reissued passports within the stipulated period after correcting necessary information, including names, dates of birth, parents’ names and other relevant details.
The previous government order, issued on July 8, 2025, expired on June 30, 2026. The latest decision extends its validity until December 31.
The ministry said the decision has come into immediate effect and instructed all concerned authorities to take necessary steps.
The notification has been sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, Department of Immigration and Passports, all Bangladesh missions abroad and other relevant agencies.
The extension will benefit many expatriate Bangladeshis who could not complete the passport correction process within the earlier deadline.
The ministry said the move would make passport-related services easier for expatriates and help them continue legal travel and other administrative activities without complications.
