Measles-linked deaths rise to 793

Bangladesh has recorded five more deaths with symptoms consistent with measles, taking the combined number of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths to 793, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The latest deaths, reported in the 24 hours until 8:00am on Monday, have been classified as suspected measles fatalities.

With the latest update, the number of suspected measles deaths has risen to 698, while the number of laboratory-confirmed measles deaths remains unchanged at 95.

The DGHS also reported 922 new suspected measles cases during the reporting period, raising the cumulative number of suspected infections nationwide to 118,570.

Meanwhile, 147 new laboratory-confirmed measles cases were detected, bringing the total number of confirmed infections to 14,578.

Since March 15, a total of 101,026 patients with suspected measles have been admitted to hospitals across the country.

According to DGHS data, 97,532 patients have recovered and been discharged, while health authorities continue to monitor the outbreak as hundreds of new suspected cases are reported each day.
