



Two people, including a seven-month-old infant and an HSC examinee, were killed and at least 12 others, including the groom, were seriously injured after a microbus carrying a wedding party crashed into the boundary wall of an Eidgah in Kishoreganj upazila of Nilphamari.
The accident occurred around midnight in the Saltibari Eidgah area under Putimari Union on Friday.
The seven-month-old Jibon Islam, son of Zikrul Islam, and Riad Islam, an HSC examinee and son of Moja Mia. Both were residents of Bandarpara village in Kochukata Union of Nilphamari Sadar upazila.
According to police and local sources, the wedding ceremony of Morsalin, a resident of Kochukata Union, and Sumaiya Akter of Keshba village in Kishoreganj Sadar Union had concluded, and the wedding party was returning with the bride.
When the microbus reached the Saltibari Eidgah area, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle. The speeding microbus crashed through the brick boundary wall of the Eidgah and rammed into the premises.
The impact left the vehicle badly mangled, trapping several passengers inside.
Locals rescued the injured and took them to Kishoreganj Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared infant Jibon Islam and HSC examinee Riad Islam dead.
The groom, Morsalin, along with 12 others who sustained serious injuries, was referred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
Dr. Nil Ratan Deb, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer of Kishoreganj, said 14 critically injured victims were brought to the health complex during the night.
Two of them were declared dead, while the others were referred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital as their conditions deteriorated.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Gafur of Kishoreganj Police Station said police visited the scene and handed over the bodies to the victims’ families after completing the necessary legal formalities. The exact cause of the accident is under investigation.
