Spain right-back Pedro Porro described reaching the FIFA World Cup final as the fulfilment of a lifelong dream after helping his side secure a 2-0 victory over France here at Dallas Stadium on Tuesday.
Porro played a key role in Spain’s commanding semi-final performance, scoring the second goal to seal a memorable win and send La Roja into their first World Cup final since lifting the trophy in 2010.
The defender doubled Spain’s advantage in the 58th minute after exchanging passes with Dani Olmo before calmly slotting the ball beyond France goalkeeper Mike Maignan.
His composed finish effectively ended France’s hopes of mounting a comeback and ensured Spain maintained their impressive unbeaten run.
Despite scoring one of the most important goals of his career, Porro was quick to credit the collective effort of the squad rather than focusing on his individual contribution.
Reflecting on Spain’s historic achievement, the 26-year-old admitted that reaching the World Cup final exceeded everything he had imagined while praising his team-mates for producing a complete performance against one of the tournament favorites.
“It’s a dream come true. It’s honestly beyond my wildest dreams. I think we played a great game, did everything we had to do to reach the final,” Porro said.
“We knew we were up against a really, really tough team. This is the team’s achievement, not mine at all. It’s simply about congratulating everyone because they played a fantastic match.”
