Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu has warned that no favouritism, irregularities, or corruption will be tolerated in the distribution of relief among flood-affected people.
He made the remarks while speaking to reporters after distributing relief among flood victims in Khankhanabad Union of Banshkhali on Wednesday.
“We will not tolerate any kind of corruption or favouritism. There is no place for politics, especially when it comes to helping flood-affected people. Relief must reach everyone in need.
If any complaint of irregularities is received, we will take immediate action,” the minister said.
The relief minister also referred to the late President Ziaur Rahman, saying, “When President Ziaur Rahman initiated the canal excavation programme, the country was facing a food shortage.
The restoration of canals improved water flow, boosted agricultural production, and eventually led to a food surplus, enabling exports. However, many canals have not been excavated for a long time, causing water flow to decline. I have instructed the authorities to restore and improve the canals.”
South District BNP Joint Convener Mishkatul Islam Chowdhury Pappa, Deputy Commissioner Zahidul Islam Miah, and others were present at the event.
