Stephen Rodriques has joined the United Nations Development Programme in Bangladesh as its new resident representative, replacing Stefan Liller.
Rodriques will lead UNDP’s operations in Bangladesh and oversee its support for the country’s development priorities.
He will work with the government, development partners, civil society, the private sector and local communities to promote inclusive growth, strengthen resilience and accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals.
“It is a privilege to join UNDP Bangladesh and contribute to the country’s development journey,” Rodriques said.
He said he looked forward to working with the government, the people of Bangladesh and development partners to build on existing achievements and advance inclusive, sustainable and community-focused solutions.
A Jamaican national, Rodriques has more than three decades of experience in international development and public-sector leadership.
He previously served as UNDP resident representative in Afghanistan, Liberia and Rwanda and as deputy country director in Indonesia. He has also held several other senior positions within the organisation.
Before joining the United Nations, Rodriques served in senior roles in the Jamaican government, contributing to public administration and national development.
