7 more children die from measles

Seven more children died from measles and suspected measles infections across Bangladesh in the latest 24-hour reporting period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The deaths were recorded between 8:00am on Monday and 8:00am on Tuesday. One child died from confirmed measles, while six others died after showing suspected symptoms of the disease.

The child with confirmed measles was from Dhaka division. Among the six children who died with suspected symptoms, four were from Dhaka division and two from Sylhet division.

During the same period, health authorities confirmed measles in 122 children, while another 868 children showed suspected symptoms, according to a report released by the DGHS on Tuesday.

Since March 15, a total of 671 children have died after developing suspected measles symptoms, while 95 deaths have been linked to confirmed infections. The combined death toll from confirmed and suspected cases has reached 766.

DGHS data show that 113,244 children have developed suspected symptoms since March 15, while 13,735 have tested positive for measles.

A total of 96,027 children have been admitted to hospitals with confirmed or suspected measles during the period. Of them, 92,383 recovered after treatment and returned home.
