Any semi-finalist can be champions in this World Cup

Former player of Bangladesh National Football team Abdul Gaffar stated his 'World Cup Thoughts' to this reporter on Tuesday.

My opinion is the four semi-finalists teams are favourites. Any semi-finalist team can be champions in this World Cup. The four semi-finalist teams as France, Spain, England, Argentina are Number One, Number Two, Number Three and Number Four, according to the latest FIFA rankings.

The first semi-final between France and Spain is ‘unwritten final’ and the second semi-final between England and Argentina is also ‘unwritten final’.

France have world class forward like Kylian Mbappe and Spain have promising talent like Lamine Yamal.

Argentina have legend footballer like Lionel Messi. England have ace striker like Harry Kane.

Argentina are defending champions, while France were the champions in the FIFA World Cup 2018 and Spain were the champions in the FIFA World Cup 2010.

On the other hand, England reached the semi-finals after a long time. But they reached this stage after presenting a better brand of football. They reached in last four after winning match by match.

I think when the semi-final between England and Argentina will be held, players of both teams will remember ‘Falklands War’. So, players of both teams may create pressure using their physical effort.

England are one of the best teams as they defeated title aspirants Norway in the quarter-final as they deserved it.

FIFA has taken a good initiative as the next FIFA World Cup 2030 will be a 64-team tournament. FIFA increased this World Cup as 48-team tournament and has got success.

Earlier, the World Cup was a 32-team football meet.

As FIFA increased participating teams, I think the football lovers of the world will be inspired, excited and enjoyed the more matches than the previous World Cups. Football is a game of heart for the whole world.

The refereeing of this World Cup is not controversial.

The referees took the help of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) and decided the correct verdict.

The decision of withdrew the red cards was not justified decision. FIFA has to apology to the football spectators, experts and the football lovers of the whole world.

Kazi Salahuddin, a legend footballer of Bangladesh, who later became President of Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) was failure after taking initiative to introduce promotional football competitions in his 17-year tenure as BFF boss.

However, Hamza Choudhury, Shamit Shome created renaissance for Bangladesh’s football. But there is still a gap as there are lacking of promising footballers in the pipe line.

There were craze in Bangladesh football in eighties and nineties. If BFF can take steps to talent hunting in the grass root levels, Bangladesh will regain their popularity of local football and also will get success in international level.
