CCC Mayor distributes relief among flood-affected families

Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor and Chairman of the Chattogram City Red Crescent Society, Dr. Shahadat Hossain, distributed relief among thousands of people affected by the season’s record-breaking rainfall in Chattogram on Sunday.

The mayor distributed relief and food items in several affected areas, including C&B, Tech Bazar, Kaptai Road Head, South Baklia and Mohra under a joint initiative of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) and the Chattogram City Red Crescent Society.

He also visited the affected neighbourhoods and spoke with local residents.
The mayor distributed relief to 2,000 families affected by flooding and waterlogging in Ward No. 19 (South Baklia) of Chattogram Metropolitan City.

While inspecting the affected areas, Dr. Shahadat Hossain said relief was being distributed to people affected by waterlogging across the city due to the unprecedented and record rainfall. He added that repair work on damaged roads and infrastructure would begin soon.

“We have been on the ground since the rainfall began,” he said. “To deal with the situation, we have held coordination meetings with all relevant agencies, including Chattogram City Corporation (CCC), CDA, Chattogram WASA, the Army’s 34 Engineer Construction Brigade, the district administration and the Fire Service, and we are monitoring the situation around the clock.”

He added, “Our first priority is to ensure the safety of residents and maintain essential services.

The City Corporation and other relevant agencies are working tirelessly to rescue stranded people, provide assistance at shelters, distribute cooked and dry food, supply safe drinking water and resolve the waterlogging as quickly as possible.”

As part of the joint relief operation with the Chattogram City Red Crescent Society, affected families received rice, lentils, dry food, safe drinking water and other emergency supplies.

Special priority was given to the needs of children, women, elderly people and persons with disabilities.

Trained Red Crescent volunteers actively participated in distributing relief, assessing damage and providing emergency assistance in the affected areas.

During the visit, the mayor instructed the concerned engineers to expedite the drainage of floodwater, keep canals and drains operational, deploy the necessary equipment to remove waterlogging and take all required emergency measures without delay.
