Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) has provided Tk 5,00,000 in financial assistance to the family of its late student, Md Rezwanul Haque, a student of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering.
The financial support was handed over to the student’s father, Md Durul Huda, by KUET Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Mashud at a ceremony held at the vice-chancellor’s office on Monday. Other members of the bereaved family were also present.
Rezwanul, a resident of Enayet Boyra village under Sanatala Union in Birganj upazila of Dinajpur, was enrolled in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (Roll No. 2127051).
He fell seriously ill on January 12, 2026, while having tea with friends at the DS Canteen of Shaheed Smriti Hall.
He was immediately taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital for treatment, where doctors declared him dead.
His untimely death cast a pall of grief over the KUET community.
Speaking at the programme, Prof Masud described Rezwanul’s death as an irreparable loss for the university.
“The untimely passing of Md Rezwanul Haque is a tragic and irreparable loss for the KUET family. The end of a young student’s dreams and potential is deeply painful for all of us,” he said.
“No amount of financial assistance can compensate for the loss of a child. However, standing beside his family during this difficult time is our moral and humanitarian responsibility.
KUET has always stood by its students and their families, and it will continue to do so in the future,” the VC added.
Prof Dr Md Salah Uddin Yusuf, head of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, remembered Rezwanul as a humble, talented and promising student.
“With his passing, the department has lost not only a student but also a bright future.
We believe we have fulfilled part of our humanitarian responsibility by standing beside his family through the collective efforts of our teachers, current students and alumni,” he said.
