The monthly meeting of the Narayanganj District Law and Order Committee was held on Sunday from 11:30 am to 2:15 pm at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, with Deputy Commissioner Md. Raihan Kabir in the chair.
At the outset of the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner presented police station-wise statistics on the recovery of illegal drugs and firearms. He instructed Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) and Assistant Commissioners (Land) to conduct regular mobile court drives to strengthen law enforcement.
He stressed the need to intensify anti-drug operations and directed the authorities to take strict legal action against drug traffickers and users. He also called for identifying counterfeit medicine manufacturers and taking legal action against them, disconnecting illegal gas connections operated through Titas Gas, and ensuring regular monitoring.
Noting that the district’s law and order situation has improved in recent months, the Deputy Commissioner urged all relevant agencies to work together through coordinated joint operations to further curb drug-related crimes, mugging, and extortion.
Superintendent of Police Md Mizanur Rahman Munshi said the district police had recently achieved significant success in recovering stolen firearms, including weapons lost by Ansar personnel and those stolen from various police stations. He also said police had arrested a criminal gang involved in burglaries targeting mobile phone shops.
The Superintendent of Police also outlined a plan to install AI-enabled CCTV cameras at key locations across Narayanganj to strengthen public security and improve traffic management. He emphasized revitalising Community Policing Committees and enhancing security at important locations, including the Signboard and Chashara intersections.
