Singapore Bangladesh Society Celebrates Rabindra-Nazrul Jayanti

The Singapore Bangladesh Society organized an engaging cultural program on July 11 at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) auditorium to celebrate the birth anniversaries of two timeless poets of Bengali literature—Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam.

Bangladeshi students residing in Singapore, along with local Bengalis and non-Bengali culture enthusiasts, participated spontaneously in the event. The program stood as a shining example of the effort to keep the spirit of the Bangla language and culture alive abroad.
In his welcome address, the Society’s President, Engineer Altaf Hossain, said, “Rabindranath and Nazrul are not merely two poets; they are symbols of our national soul. Their literature, music, and ideals serve as guiding lights for our heritage and humanity.”

The event featured Rabindra Sangeet and Nazrul Geeti performed by renowned artists from Singapore, poetry recitations by the group “Kahon,” dance performances based on the works of Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam, and captivating performances by children and youth from the SBS-CFA (Center for Arts).
Those involved believe that this event has fostered a deep interest in Bengali culture and literature among the new generation growing up abroad.

Cultural Secretary Tauhida Rahman Tina planned the event. With Mazharul Abedin joining her, the program became even more lively thanks to her fluent hosting.
