This year’s theme is “Realising the hopes and aspirations of young people – today and for the future.”
President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman have issued separate messages highlighting the significance of the day.
A discussion meeting will be held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka to mark the occasion. President Shahabuddin is expected to attend the programme as the chief guest, while Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain will also be present.
Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and private television channels will air special programmes, while national newspapers will publish special supplements to mark the day.
World Population Day was first observed on July 11, 1990, in 90 countries to raise awareness about global population issues, including reproductive health, gender equality and sustainable development.
