



Three individuals and three institutions received the National Environment Award 2025 on Thursday for their outstanding contributions to environmental conservation, environmental education and awareness, and research and technology innovation.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman handed over the National Environment Award 2025 (NEA) to the winners at the inaugural programme of the national celebrations marking World Environment Day-2026 at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in Dhaka on Thursday.
The award was given in recognition of significant contributions in three categories – environmental conservation and pollution control, environmental education and promotion, and environmental research and technology innovation.
At the individual level, Assistant Professor of Alhaj Farhad Ali Memorial Degree College Md Hasmat Ali received the award in the environmental conservation and pollution control category.
Md Monir Hossain was honoured in the environmental education and promotion category, while Professor Dr Abdus Salam, a teacher of the Department of Chemistry at Dhaka University and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) of the university, received the award in the environmental research and technology innovation category.
Among institutions, Classical Handmade Products BD Limited received the award in the environmental conservation and pollution control category.
The Institute of Forestry and Environmental Sciences of Chittagong University was recognised in the environmental education and promotion category.
The Bangladesh Jute Research Institute received the award for environmental research and technology innovation.
Speaking as the chief guest at the World Environment Day and Tree Plantation Fair inauguration programme, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman highlighted the need for greater public awareness to address environmental challenges.
“Media reports have said that Dhaka is now ranked third among the cities that are unfit for living, which is not at all a pleasant news. It is urgent to change this situation. For this, creating awareness among the people of the country is now our major responsibility,” he said.
The programme was chaired by Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo.
State Minister Sheikh Faridul Islam, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Saimum Parvez and Acting Secretary Fahmida Khanam, among others, also spoke at the event.
The National Environment Award is given annually to recognise individuals and organisations making significant contributions to protecting the environment, promoting environmental awareness and advancing research-based solutions for environmental challenges.
