Tigers’ practice session begins

Bangladesh Cricket squad have begun their practice session. The Tigers started their training camp at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital’s Mirpur on Sunday marking the upcoming Cricket Competition of Asian Games.
The Asian Games 2026 will be held at Aichi-Nagoya in Japan from September 19 to October 4.
The Cricket Competition will kick-off on October 24. The players took part in their practice camp under supervision of Head Coach Phil Simmons.
Mustafizur Rahman, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Tanzid Hasan, Mahedi Hasan, Nasum Ahmed, Litton Das, Yasir Ali and more cricketers took part in the practice session of the first day.
Several cricketers were absent in the training session of the first day as they were engaged their special assignments.
Various reasons account for these absences; some players are on leave, while others are still abroad.
Pacer Shoriful Islam, currently on leave, is expected to join the team’s practice sessions on September 15.
Meanwhile, Hasan Mahmud, Khaled Ahmed, who have been playing for Kent in the County Championship in England, have not yet returned to the country.
The Cricketers, who are currently touring South Africa with the Bangladesh ‘A’ team could not take part in the opening day’s camp.
The Tigers will directly play in the quarter-final of the Cricket Competition of the 20th Asian Games.
Bangladesh need not play in the group stage as they have an advantage, according to the latest International Cricket Council (ICC) ranking.
Bangladesh will play against the top team of Group-B in the quarter-final. Malaysia, Oman and Hong Kong, China are in the Group-B.
Bangladesh clinched the bronze medal in the Asian Games 2023, which was held at Hangzhou in China.
Bangladesh beat Malaysia by two runs in the quarter-final. The Tigers lost to India in the semi-final by nine wickets.
Bangladesh won the bronze medal defeating Pakistan by three wickets, according to the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method in the third-place-deciding match.
