



Bangladesh has reiterated its solidarity with Iran and stressed the importance of dialogue and diplomacy for ensuring peace and stability in the Middle East during a meeting between the Iranian Ambassador and Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman in Dhaka.
The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Bangladesh, Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi, paid a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman on Sunday.
During the meeting, Ambassador Jahanabadi expressed his sincere appreciation to the Government of Bangladesh for sending a high-level delegation, led by the Speaker of the National Parliament, to attend the state funeral of Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in Tehran.
The ambassador thanked Bangladesh for its gesture of solidarity and participation in the funeral ceremony, which drew leaders and dignitaries from various countries.
Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman conveyed Bangladesh’s profound condolences on the demise of Ayatollah Khamenei and reaffirmed the country’s support for the people of Iran during what he described as a difficult period for the nation.
He underscored the close bonds between the peoples of Bangladesh and Iran and expressed sympathy on behalf of the government and people of Bangladesh.
The foreign minister also highlighted the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in promoting lasting peace and stability in the Middle East. He stressed that regional peace remains essential for the prosperity and development of the region and the wider international community.
According to officials, the discussions reflected Bangladesh’s continued support for peaceful resolution of conflicts and its longstanding position in favour of diplomatic engagement to address regional challenges.
The two sides also exchanged views on a range of issues of mutual interest and discussed matters relating to bilateral cooperation between Bangladesh and Iran.
The meeting reaffirmed the friendly relations between the two countries and their shared interest in strengthening cooperation on regional and international issues.
