‘America Fair’ opens in the capital

Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman meets US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T Christensen at Jatiya Sangsad in the capital on Saturday marking America’s 250th National Day.

The ‘America Fair’ opens in Dhaka’s Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed Park in Gulshan, inaugurated by the US Ambassador as part of the nationwide ‘America Week’ programme marking the upcoming 250th anniversary of the signing of the US Declaration of Independence.

The initiative is designed to strengthen people-to-people ties between the United States and Bangladesh by showcasing American history, culture and values while encouraging mutual understanding between the citizens of both countries.

Speaking at the opening ceremony on Saturday, the US Ambassador said that the objective of ‘America Week’ is to bring American cultural and historical narratives closer to people across Bangladesh, while also learning more about the country and its society.

He said, “The fair reflects a shared commitment to cultural exchange and friendship, adding that strong public participation highlights the warmth of bilateral relations.”

The ‘America Fair’ features a range of cultural and educational attractions. A Founders Museum, presenting the history and founding stories of the United States, is inaugurated at the venue and will remain open to the public for one month.

The programme also includes a musical collaboration between the 25th Infantry Division Band of the US Army and Bangladeshi artists, highlighting cultural cooperation and shared artistic appreciation.

As part of the wider initiative, ‘America Week’ activities have already been completed in Chattogram, with upcoming events scheduled in Rajshahi and Sylhet following the Dhaka programme.

The Ambassador also praises the hospitality of the Bangladeshi people, saying the strong turnout at the fair reflects the enduring friendship between the two nations as they mark a historic milestone in US independence celebrations.
