‘Edu reforms would be foundation of self-dependent BD’

Prime Minister’s Adviser on Education Dr Mahdi Amin said Implementation of necessary reforms in the education system in the country in light with the electoral manifestoes announced by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman would be a foundation of building a prosperous and self-dependent Bangladesh.

The adviser said this as the special guest while addressing a function of formal announcement of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) System Transformation Grant (STG) to support identified priority reforms focused on teacher professionalization, in Bangladesh, held at a city hotel here on Thursday.

Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon spoke the function as the chief guest while State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj spoke as the special guest. Senior representatives from ADB, UNICEF, UNESCO and British High Commission also attended the function.

He said the government is working to build our students as patriot, good, competent, and global citizens through a modern and contemporary education system.

He said implementation of necessary reforms in country’s education system in line with the electoral manifestoes announced by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman would be a fundamental base of building a prosperous and self-reliant Bangladesh in future.

Global Partnership for Education (GPE), UNESCO, UNICEF, ADB, Education and Primary and Mass Education Ministry jointly organized the function. Dr Mahdi said today is a day of Immense happiness as a big grant of US$ 98.85 million have been ensured for the development of the education sector of Bangladesh with the assistance of international development partners.

All of our international stakeholders have meet here jointly  and it would be possible to make our education system more inclusive through this participation.

Efforts are underway to modernize the curriculum aiming to stimulate talent and hidden potentials of each student from class one to class 12.

Culture and Sports have been made compulsory as the education becomes entertaining for every student, he said, adding that even emphasis has been given on technical, vocational and linguistic skills aiming to face the global challenge.

Giving importance on the role of the teachers, the PM’s Education Adviser said the development of skills and professionalism of the teachers, who prepare the students, are very much important.

If we fail to develop the teachers as skilled and competent one then the result of modern education system will not come.

So, the grant will play important role to enhance professional competence of the teachers through imparting proper training, he added.
