The government has adopted a policy decision to establish four police stations, six investigation centres and two police lines in the Purbachal New Town Project area as part of a broader plan to strengthen law and order in the rapidly developing township, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ali Hossain Fakir said on Wednesday.
The announcement came during the inauguration of the newly constructed Borkau Police Camp at the RAJUK Central Mechanical Stack Yard in the Purbachal New Town Project area.
Ali Hossain said the initiative has been taken to enhance policing and public security in the Capital Development Authority (RAJUK)-managed project area. He added that work is also underway to establish three deputy commissioner (DC) offices, while the process of setting up 41 police boxes across different sectors of the township is progressing.
Describing the inauguration of the Borkau Police Camp as the formal start of police operations in Purbachal, the IGP said the facility would play a significant role in developing the area into a planned, secure and modern township.
He said the Ministry of Home Affairs has already granted administrative approval for establishing the proposed police stations and investigation centres, recognising the growing importance of security and law enforcement in the residential project.
According to the IGP, RAJUK has decided to allocate 29.21 acres of land to Bangladesh Police in phases. Registration of deeds for 18.63 acres has already been completed, while the remaining land is currently undergoing the registration process.
Ali Hossain also said there are plans to bring the Purbachal New Town Project under the jurisdiction of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) by creating a separate division similar to other DMP divisions. If implemented, law-and-order activities in the area would be supervised by an Additional Police Commissioner.
He added that a proposal to create approximately 6,524 police personnel positions for the Purbachal New Town Project is under consideration.
The IGP said the establishment of the police camp would help accelerate development activities and strengthen public confidence through an enhanced police presence.
Expressing optimism about future expansion, he said the Pushi Police Camp is expected to be inaugurated within the next two months, while additional police stations and investigation centres will be established in phases.
The programme, chaired by DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed, was attended by senior police officials, local dignitaries and journalists from the print and electronic media.
