BUP holds 18th annual senate meeting

Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) held its 18th Annual Senate Meeting on Tuesday at the BUP Senate Hall, with the university’s Vice Chancellor and Chairman of the Senate, Maj Gen Mahbub-ul Alam, presiding over the session.

At the outset of the meeting, the VC expressed appreciation to the outgoing Senate members for their contributions and welcomed the newly appointed members, reads a press release.

The senate chairman said that although BUP is a relatively young university, its students, faculty members and researchers have consistently demonstrated excellence.

Through active participation in academic competitions, research activities, seminars, workshops and innovation programmes at both national and international levels, they have earned continuous recognition, further strengthening the university’s reputation and credibility.

“BUP places special importance on discipline and ethics alongside academic education and remains committed to developing disciplined, ethical and responsible citizens,” he said.

To instill moral values, integrity, character, social responsibility and patriotism among the younger generation, the university regularly organises discussion sessions, symposiums and cultural programmes highlighting the culture, heritage and significance of Bangladesh’s national days.

The Chairman also said BUP regularly publishes several internationally recognised research journals to disseminate research findings both at home and abroad.

He added that, in response to the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the rapidly changing global environment, the university is developing an education system that places equal emphasis on academic excellence, leadership, creativity, critical thinking, technological competence and problem-solving skills.

As a result, BUP has rapidly emerged as a trusted institution of higher education in education, research, innovation and international collaboration.

The meeting was informed that extensive development work has been completed on BUP’s western campus.

Three modern 14-storey academic buildings for the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), and a utility building have been constructed.

In addition, two separate 14-storey residential halls for students and two residential buildings for faculty members, officers and staff have also been built.

In the concluding part of his speech, the chairman said BUP is continuing its efforts to strengthen internationalisation by increasing the participation of foreign students and faculty members, expanding collaboration with international universities and fostering an inclusive and multicultural educational environment.

Later, BUP Treasurer Air Commodore Md Reza Emdad Khan presented the revised budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year amounting to Tk143 crore 99 lakh 43 thousand and the proposed budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year amounting to Tk149 crore 33 lakh 62 thousand.

Following discussions on the treasurer’s presentation, the Senate unanimously approved the proposed budget. It also reviewed and unanimously approved the university’s 18th Annual Report. The meeting was conducted by BUP Registrar Brig Gen Md Rabbi Ahsan.

Members of Parliament, secretaries from various ministries, senior officers of the Bangladesh Armed Forces and senior BUP officials attended the 18th Annual Senate Meeting.
