Amazon releases book on BD’s political journey

A research-based book examining Bangladesh’s political developments from the post-independence era to recent events has been published by Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Solaiman Tushar.

Titled Bangladesh After a Gory Dawn, the book was released on Sunday (28 June) through Amazon Kindle Publishing. It is available worldwide in both e-book and paperback formats via Amazon. The e-book is priced at US$9.99, while the paperback edition costs US$19.99.

According to the author, the book presents a research-based account of Bangladesh’s political history, covering major developments since independence, including the July-August 2024 mass uprising, contemporary politics and key historical events.

The publication examines a number of significant episodes in the country’s political history, including the assassinations of two former presidents, the rise and fall of former military ruler Hussain Muhammad Ershad, and other major political developments.

It also explores the political careers of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, tracing their respective political journeys and leadership.

The book discusses allegations of extrajudicial killings and human rights violations in Bangladesh in recent years. It also examines the July-August 2024 protests, describing them as one of the country’s largest student-led movements, and analyses the violence surrounding the events.

In addition, the author critically assesses the policies and actions of the interim government led by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus.

The book argues that the case relating to the alleged atrocities during the July uprising was ultimately not referred to the International Criminal Court (ICC), despite efforts by the interim administration, and raises questions regarding the role of former legal adviser Dr Asif Nazrul.

The publication further discusses the political developments that led to BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman becoming Prime Minister after a prolonged period in exile, examining the circumstances surrounding his rise to office and the subsequent political landscape.

The book also evaluates the role of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and its leaders following the July uprising. It alleges that some student leaders became involved in extortion and criminal activities after the movement, and analyses the reasons behind the National Citizens Party’s (NCP) failure to achieve its expected electoral performance.

Speaking about the publication, Barrister Solaiman Tushar said the book was based on his research and observations.

“Bangladesh After a Gory Dawn is a realistic research book covering events from the post-independence period to the present,” he said. “I have narrated what I witnessed and what I learned through my reading in my own way. The book contains a great deal of lesser-known information that readers will discover.”
