KUET to focus on research and innovation

KUET: Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Mashud speaks at the Orientation 2026 programme for newly admitted students at KUET on Thursday.

We are working to transform Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) into a student-friendly, research-driven and world-class higher education institution said Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Mashud.

All necessary support will be provided to help students develop their talents, creativity, and innovative potential,he added. He made this remarks at the KUET’s “Orientation 2026” programme on Thursday.

The programme was held at the university’s central auditorium, with Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Mashud attending as the chief guest. Director of Student Welfare Prof Dr Md Hasan Ali presided over the event.

Addressing the newcomers, the Vice-Chancellor described university admission as a significant milestone in a student’s life and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to building a student-friendly, research-oriented, and internationally competitive institution.

He further stated that the university aims to establish itself as one of the country’s leading research institutions, adding that the knowledge, research, and innovations generated by students would contribute to national development and help address global challenges.

Urging students to make the most of their university life, Prof Mashud said they should embrace every opportunity for learning, research, leadership development, and the cultivation of human values.

He also stressed the importance of integrity, discipline, responsibility, and patriotism in becoming skilled engineers and responsible citizens.

Among the special guests were former Director of BIT Khulna Prof M A Hannan; Dean of the Civil Engineering Faculty Prof Dr Khandaker Mahbub Hasan; Dean of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Faculty Prof Dr Md Rafiqul Islam; Dean of the Mechanical Engineering Faculty Prof Dr Mohammad Sultan Mahmud; Dean of the Science and Humanities Faculty Prof Dr Mohammad Abu Yusuf; and Registrar Engineer Md Anisur Rahman Bhuiyan.

Speaking at the programme, Prof Hannan said university life is the most important period for developing a student’s personality, leadership qualities, and professional competence. He encouraged students to maintain academic discipline, use their time effectively, and cultivate a research-oriented mindset.

“Students should strive to become not only competent engineers but also responsible and humane citizens,” he said.

The Registrar delivered the welcome address, while the deans highlighted the importance of discipline, ethics, knowledge-sharing, research, and human values in university life.

In recognition of his longstanding contributions to KUET’s academic and institutional development, Prof Hannan was presented with a commemorative crest by the Vice-Chancellor.

Later, Prof Mashud formally inaugurated the digital library card and KUET e-mail services by handing over the facilities to three newly admitted students.

Under the new digital system, each student will receive a unique identification account enabling access to university e-mail, academic registration, fee payments, hall management, library services, and various administrative functions through a single integrated platform.

On behalf of the freshers, Urban and Regional Planning student Afif Adnan, Mechanical Engineering student Pranjal Dhar, and Electrical and Electronic Engineering student Saiyara Islam Nipun shared their experiences and expressed their determination to contribute to the country’s development as future engineers.

The programme began with the national anthem and a recitation from the Holy Quran. Directors of various institutes, department heads, hall provosts, teachers, officials, students, and guardians attended the event.

The ceremony concluded with the president’s closing remarks, followed by a commemorative photo session involving guests, faculty members, and newly enrolled students.
