‘Education must foster morality, patriotism’

Deputy Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Barrister Kayser Kamal, MP, on Wednesday stressed the need for an education system that nurtures morality, patriotism and human values alongside academic excellence, saying such qualities are essential for building responsible future leaders.

He made the remarks while exchanging views with teachers and students at Don Bosco School in the capital, according to a press release.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Speaker described education as the backbone of a nation and urged students to pursue their studies with sincerity and dedication.

“Education is the backbone of a nation. Students must be inspired by moral values, patriotism and humanity to become the leaders of tomorrow,” he said.

Highlighting the role of educational institutions in promoting social harmony, Kayser Kamal noted that students from different religious backgrounds study together at Don Bosco School. He described the institution as an example of communal harmony and peaceful coexistence.

He also emphasised the importance of connecting children with Bangladesh’s culture, heritage and traditions while encouraging their participation in sports and co-curricular activities for holistic development.

The Deputy Speaker expressed concern over the growing threat of drug abuse among young people and called for coordinated action involving families, educational institutions and society to protect children and adolescents from the menace.

He said preventing drug addiction requires collective responsibility and greater awareness at all levels to ensure a safe and healthy environment for future generations.

During the visit, Kayser Kamal assured support for the continued development of the educational institution.

He later joined a photo session with teachers, students and other stakeholders and signed autographs for the students.

The Deputy Speaker also enjoyed a cultural programme performed by the students and praised their talents and active participation.
