Illicit Chinese fishing nets destroyed in Singra

Based on information from the National Security Agency (NSI), the upazila administration conducted an operation in Singra upazila of Natore district and seized and destroyed illegal Chinese fishing nets worth Tk 20 lakh.

Abdullah Al Rifat, a mobile court judge and Singra Upazila Nirbahi Officer, conducted an operation on Monday in the Sarkarpara neighborhood of Singra Municipality.

During this, illegal Chinese fishing nets and current nets worth Tk 20 lakh were seized. 3 people were punished by a mobile court for using and selling the nets. Later, the seized nets were burned and destroyed.

In the operation, Md. Ekabbar Hossain, son of the late Haider Ali of Sarkarpara Mohalla, was fined Tk 20,000, Md. Shahidul Sardar, son of the late Amir Ali Sardar of Ekdala village of Naldanga upazila, was jailed for 2 months and fined Tk 5,000, and a regular case was filed against Md. Rajib Hossain, son of Alauddin of Sarkarpara.

Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Md. Shahadat Hossain, Upazila Agriculture Officer Khandaker Farid, Singra Police Station OC Rafiqul Islam and members of NSI were present.

Upazila Executive Officer Abdullah Al Rifat said that based on intelligence information, illegal Chinese fishing nets worth more than Tk 20 lakh were seized and destroyed.

Two people were sentenced to various sentences and a case was filed against one person. We are working to protect the fish and biodiversity of Chalanbil. Such operations of the administration will continue.
