A local social organisation, Notun Kuri Club, in Baramchal Union of Kulaura Upazila has completed the repair of about one kilometer of road through volunteer efforts.
The road was repaired with bricks and sand on Friday after a day-long work in Purba Singur village of Ward No. 8 of the union.
The renovation work was carried out with financial support and voluntary labor from several local individuals, including expatriates Junel Ahmed, Mansur Ahmed, Zakir Hossain, and journalist Bashir Al Ferdaus of Singur village. Local residents also contributed to the effort.
Locals said that around 200 people from the densely populated East Singur and West Singur villages of Ward 8 in Baramchal Union use this road every day.
Farmers from the area also travel through this route to reach Hakaluki Haor for agricultural work.
Since the road had not been renovated for a long time, it becomes muddy during the rainy season, while dust creates difficulties in the dry season.
Residents also said that a few years ago, brick paving work was carried out on the road by local Union Parishad member Mainul Haque Sona Mia.
However, due to vehicle movement and rainfall over time, the road again fell into poor condition.
When rainwater creates potholes in various sections of the road, bricks become loose and the road becomes difficult to use.
In this situation, instead of waiting for government allocation, the local Notun Kuri Club took the initiative to repair the road.
Locals hope that this initiative will significantly ease their long-standing suffering.
