



A total of 177 students from the Faculty of Veterinary Science at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) have received surgical kit boxes.
The distribution ceremony was held at 3:30 pm on Monday at the Syed Nazrul Islam Conference Hall of the university, organized by the Department of Surgery and Obstetrics.
The event was chaired by Professor Dr. Md. Rafiqul Alam, Head of the Department of Surgery and Obstetrics. The Acting Vice-Chancellor of BAU, Professor Dr. G. M. Mujibur Rahman, attended as the chief guest, while Professor Dr. Md. Bahanur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Science and Syndicate Member of the university, was present as the special guest.
Among others present were Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Alim, University Proctor; Dr. Md. Shahidul Haque, Student Affairs Adviser; faculty members of the department; and students of the faculty.
Addressing the gathering, Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. G. M. Mujibur Rahman said that veterinary education is a specialized medical profession that plays a vital role in producing skilled professionals. He emphasized the need for official recognition of veterinary education as a distinct medical profession and noted that animal healthcare is a highly challenging field where expertise in surgery and medicine is essential.
He urged students to apply the knowledge and experience gained during their internships to become competent veterinary practitioners.
In his speech, Dean Professor Dr. Md. Bahanur Rahman stated that merely possessing surgical kits and instruments is not enough; students must ensure their proper use in practical veterinary treatment. He encouraged them to actively participate in hospital and clinical cases to develop themselves into skilled veterinary surgeons.
He further mentioned that a veterinary graduate is required to complete courses from 22 different departments, preparing them to work in diverse and challenging fields. He also highlighted that BAU’s Faculty of Veterinary Science is ranked first in Bangladesh and 92nd in Asia in the Scimago Rankings.
Referring to infection control as one of the major challenges in surgery, he urged students to use the surgical kits properly and establish themselves as competent veterinarians and surgeons.
