PM takes stock of Dhaka traffic relief initiatives

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday reviewed the progress of measures undertaken to ease traffic congestion in the capital and modernise Dhaka’s traffic management system.

He sought updates on the overall implementation of traffic management initiatives, including the installation of AI-powered traffic cameras across the city. The review meeting was held at the Public Administration Room of the Cabinet Division at the Secretariat in the morning, Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon said.

According to Rumon, the Prime Minister enquired about the number of AI cameras already installed and the timeline for completing the installation of the remaining devices. The meeting also discussed the removal of obsolete and unfit vehicles from Dhaka’s roads, with the Prime Minister issuing several directives on the matter.

Rumon said Tarique Rahman instructed the relevant authorities to accelerate the installation of AI cameras as part of efforts to upgrade and modernise the capital’s traffic management infrastructure.
The meeting marked the Prime Minister’s third review of traffic congestion and traffic management issues in Dhaka.

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam, State Minister Habibur Rashid Habib, Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Abdus Salam, Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Shafiqul Islam Khan, Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani, Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar, Home Secretary Monjur Morshed Chowdhury and senior officials from the relevant ministries attended the meeting.
