Tigresses’ WC mission begins by beating the Netherlands

The Bangladesh Women’s Cricket team started their campaign with a great victory in the Women’s T20 World Cup (WC). The Tigresses defeated the Netherlands by 6 wickets thanks to the batting skills of Juairiya Ferdous and Sharmin Akter Supta at Birmingham in England on Sunday . Chasing a target of 140 runs with five balls and 6 wickets in hand, Bangladesh surpassed it.

Bangladesh got off to a stormy start in the match. They scored 67 runs without losing any wickets in the first 7 overs. Juairiya Ferdous stormed with 50 runs in 33 balls, which included seven fours and two sixes. She returned after completing her half-century with a six. Juairiya Ferdous was adjudged the Player of the Match.

After the storm started, Bangladesh quickly suffered a setback. Captain Nigar Sultana fell victim to a golden duck. Then the team lost two wickets in a row in the eighth over. Dilara Akter (26 off 23 balls) and Sobhana Mostari returned in the 11th over.

However, Bangladesh did not lose control of the match. Sharmin Akter and Shorna Akter took charge and finished the innings. The duo’s unbroken 56-run partnership ensured victory. Sharmin made 37 off 32 balls and Shorna remained unbeaten on 18 off 17 balls.

Earlier, the Netherlands came out to bat and scored 139 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs. Captain Babette de Leede was the only batter to complete a half-century. No one else could play a big innings.

Among the bowlers for Bangladesh, Marufa Akter took 2 wickets. Besides, Fariha Trishna, Sanjida Akter Meghla, Rabeya Khan and Ritu Mani took one wicket each.
