Govt prioritises science-based learning for students
The government is restructuring the national education curriculum to nurture innovation, scientific research and technology-based problem-solving skills among students, Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon said on Friday.
Addressing the inauguration of the Upazila-level “Startup Science Project and Innovative Idea Exhibition Programme” virtually, the minister said the government places the highest priority on developing a knowledge-based generation capable of meeting future challenges.
The programme, organised by the Educational Excellence Support Scheme (EESS) under the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, was held at the Gournadi Upazila Parishad Auditorium in Barishal. Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Ibrahim chaired the event.
Swapon said efforts are underway to redesign the curriculum so that textbooks encourage scientific inquiry, research and technology-driven solutions to real-world problems.
He emphasised that students should acquire the skills needed to conduct research and apply science and technology to address practical challenges.
Among those present were Gournadi Upazila BNP Member Secretary Sharif Jahir Sajjad Hannan, Upazila Livestock Officer Palash Sarkar, Gournadi Press Club President Jahurul Islam Jahir, Upazila Agricultural Extension Officer Sharmin Akter, Upazila Secondary Education Officer Md Mahbub Alam, Upazila ICT Officer Biplob Kumar Debnath, Upazila Academic Supervisor Gouranga Prasad Gain and Nirmal Chandra Haldar, Principal of Gournadi Girls’ School and College.
Students also took part in the programme, including Badhan Saha, a Class XI science student of Government Gournadi College, and Jyoti Som, a Class XI science student of Agailjhara College, who spoke on the occasion.
