Passenger held with heroin in Pabna

Rajshahi Railway Police arrested a man with 100 grams of heroin-like powder during an anti-drug operation on the Bonolota Express while the train was travelling from Dhaka to Rajshahi. The estimated value of the seized substance is Tk 1 million.

According to a press release issued by the Pakshi Railway District Police, a team of Rajshahi Railway Police, under the direction of Pakshi Railway District Police Superintendent Md Mehedi Hasan and the supervision of the Officer-in-Charge, conducted the anti-drug operation based on a tip-off at 6:25pm on August 29.

When the train was passing the western outer signal of Hariyan Railway Station, police spotted Md Zakir Hossain, 54, standing suspiciously in the western-side corridor of coach “Dha”.

A subsequent search allegedly led to the recovery of a white polythene packet containing 100 grams of heroin-like powder, concealed inside his underwear beneath his check lungi.

The substance was seized in accordance with legal procedures in the presence of witnesses.

The arrested man, Zakir Hossain, is the son of late Jillar Rahman of Bagdanga village under Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila.

A case was filed with Rajshahi Railway Police Station under Section 36(1), Schedule 8(ga), of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018. The case number is 5, dated August 29, 2026, and the GR number is 28. The accused was subsequently produced before the court.
