New pay scale from July 1: FnM

The government has announced the phased implementation of a new pay structure for public sector employees starting from 1 July 2026, aimed at adjusting salaries in line with rising living costs and strengthening merit-based governance.

While placing the proposed national budget of Tk 9.38 lakh crore for the fiscal year 2026-27 in the Jatiya Sangsad, Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury on Thursday said the government is committed to building a meritocratic Bangladesh, where merit, integrity, competence, experience, and professional qualifications will serve as the key criteria for all appointments, transfers, and promotions in the public service.

He noted that government employees have been operating under the same pay structure for nearly 11 years, during which time inflation has significantly increased the cost of living.

In response to this economic pressure, he said, the government has decided to introduce a revised pay framework in phases to ensure greater fairness and financial stability for public servants.
