4 killed in Tangail road crash
Four people were killed when a chicken-laden truck rammed into the rear of a stationary bamboo-laden truck in Sakhipur Upazila of Tangail early Tuesday.
The accident occurred at around 4:30 am in the Kalia Bazar area on the Sakhipur-Sagardighi road, according to local sources.
The deceased were identified as Noor Nabi, 64, son of Abdul Hakim Mia of Bakshiganj Upazila in Jamalpur district and driver of the chicken-laden truck; Rafiqul, 18, son of Md Palash of Patnitala Upazila in Naogaon district and the truck’s helper; Sagar, 22, son of Md Ershad of Kendua Upazila in Netrakona district; and Sumon, 26, son of Md Selim of Bhola Sadar Upazila.
All four were travelling in the chicken-laden truck.
Witnesses said the bamboo-laden vehicle had been parked on the roadside when the Dhaka-bound chicken-laden truck crashed into its rear, killing all four occupants on the spot.
Upon receiving information, police recovered the bodies and took them to Sakhipur Police Station.
Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Md Al Mamun of Sakhipur Police Station said efforts were underway to contact the victims’ families.
“The bodies will be handed over to their relatives after the completion of the necessary legal formalities,” he added.
