Historic victory for Tigers against Aussies in 1st ODI

Bangladesh Cricket team registered a historic 86-run victory over Australia Cricket team in the first One Day International (ODI) match, according to the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) Method at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital’s Mirpur on Tuesday. After 21 years, Bangladesh won against Australia.
Bangladesh last defeated Australia at Cardiff in Australia in 2005. The Tigers beat the Aussies at their home soil for the first time.
Sent into bat first, Bangladesh piled up a mammoth total of 284 for the loss of eight wickets in the allotted 50 overs and then Australia scored 191 for the loss of nine wickets in 42.2 overs before it started to rain.
Later, the Match Referee set a target of 278 runs to win for Australia in 42.2 overs. Thus, the Tigers won the match as per DLS Method.
Bangladesh had a painful start as opener Saif Hassan (5) was caught at the slip by Marnus Labuschagne off Nathan Ellis when the hosts’ score was just 10.
After Saif’s dismissal, opener Tanzid Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto repaired the damage contributing 96 runs for the second wicket partnership before Tanzid Hasan was caught at the mid-off by Xavier Bartlett off Nathan Ellis when Bangladesh’s total was 106 for the loss of two wickets.
Tanzid Hasan hit a sparkle 54. His 44-ball innings was belted with seven fours and a sixer. It was Tanzid Hasan’s seventh ODI half-century.
After Tanzid’s dismissal, second-down Litton Das came at the crease but his innings was short-lived as he (7) was caught & bowled Matt Renshaw when the home side’s score was 125 for the loss of three wickets.
After Litton’s departure, Najmul Hossain Shanto was caught at the long-off by Cooper Connolly off Renshaw when Bangladesh’s total was 140 for the loss of four wickets.
Shanto hit a marvelous 67. His 86-ball innings was laced with nine fours and a six. It was Shanto’s 12th ODI half-century.
After Shanto’s departure, Tawhid Hridoy and Mosaddek Hossain put on together 75 runs for the fifth wicket partnership before Tawhid Hridoy was caught at the mid-off by Ellis off Xavier Bartlett when the Tigers’ score was 215 for the loss of five wickets.
Hridoy made 31 from 51 deliveries featuring one four. After Hridoy’s dismissal, Bangladesh could able to build only one remarkable partnership.
Mosaddek Hossain and Taskin Ahmed added together 45 runs in the eight-wicket stand before Taskin Ahmed (20) was caught at the mid-off by Ellis off Liam Scott when Bangladesh’s innings came to an end.
Mosaddek Hossain remained unbeaten with 86 runs. He hit three sixes and seven fours in his 70-ball knock. It was Mosaddek’s fourth ODI half-century.
Ellis grabbed three wickets instead of 38 runs, while Matt Renshaw and Liam Scott bagged a pair of wickets each conceding 35 and 57 runs respectively.
Bangladeshi bowlers bowled extremely well and totally dominated the Aussies batter.
Nahid Rana captured four wickets in the space of 41 runs, while Mustafizur Rahman and Mosaddek Hossain bagged two wickets each instead of 24 and 37 runs respectively.
Besides, Taskin Ahmed took one wicket for 28 runs.
Later, right-arm pacer Taskin Ahmed gave his team early breakthrough as opener Mathew Short (0) was bowled out by right-arm pacer when Australia’s score was naught.
Left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman struck as one-down Labuschangne ( 1) was trapped leg before wicket by left-arm pacer when the tourists’ score was just two for the loss of two wickets.
Opener Connolly and Josh Inglis mended the innings scoring together 49 runs in the third-wicket partnership before Inglis (19) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Litton Das off Nahid Rana when Aussies’ total was 51 for the loss of three wickets.
Connolly and Alex Carey built another notable partnership scoring together 40 runs in the four-wicket stand before Connolly was bowled out by Mosaddek Hossain when the visitors’ score was 91 for the loss of four wickets.
Connolly scored 35 from 50 balls including five fours and a sixer.
Then, Alex Carey and Cameron Green added together 36 runs for the fifth wicket partnership before Carey was caught behind by Litton Das off Nahid Rana when Australia’s total was 128 for the loss of five wickets.
Carey hit a polished 47. His 62-ball knock had five fours.
Mosaddek Hossain hit again as Renshaw (2) was trapped leg before wicket by him when the tourists’ score was 135 for the loss of six wickets.
Promising right-arm speedster Nahid Rana struck as Liam Scott (2) was caught at the gully by Tawhid Hridoy off right-arm pacer when Australia’s total was 138 for the loss of seven wickets.
Nahid Rana hit again as Xavier Bartlett (1) was caught at the square leg by Tanzid Hasan off right-arm pacer when the touring side’s score was 140 for the loss of eight wickets.
Number 10. batter Ellis (8) was caught at the long-off by Mosaddek Hossain off Mustafizur Rahman when the visitors’ total was 156 for the loss of nine wickets.
Cameron Green and Adam Zampa added together 35 runs for the unbroken 10th wicket partnership when Australia’s score was 191 for the loss of nine wickets.
Cameron Green remained unbeaten with 52 runs, while Adam Zampa remained unbeaten with six runs before it started to rain and the result was decided according to DLS Method.
