Trial of 4-year old child rape case begins

The tribunal has ordered to start of the trial by framing charges against accused Monir Hossain in the case of raping a four-year-old child of the city’s Bakalia police station. Judge SyedaHafsaJhuma of the Chattogram Metropolitan Child Violence Prevention Tribunal gave the order On Tuesday.

At that time, accused Monir Hossain was present in the tribunal. When the trial began at around 11 am, accused Monir Hossain told the tribunal that he would appoint a lawyer for himself. The court gave him one hour to contact the family. Earlier, the state party appointed a lawyer for accused Monir Hossain in the tribunal.

\The tribunal’s Public Prosecutor (PP) Mahmud-ulAlam Chowdhury Maruf said that the charge sheet filed by the police last Thursday was transferred to the tribunal from the Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Sunday. The tribunal accepted the charge sheet on Monday.

Then on Tuesday, the tribunal ordered the start of the trial by framing charges against the accused Monir Hossain. The tribunal has fixed a date for the testimony of witnesses on Wednesday (June 10).

The hearing date is being set in a short time to resolve the case quickly. Earlier, the charge sheet was submitted to the prosecution branch of the court on Thursday (June 4). Police say that the truth of the charges has been found based on the medical report of the victim child, DNA report, witness evidence and the confessional statement of the accused.

The only accused in the case is Monir Hossain (30), a resident of Gharghata area of Muradnagarupazila of Comilla. He was currently living in Miakhannagar in Baklia area of Chattogram city.

Police sources said that on the afternoon of May 21, a four-year-old child was raped in a warehouse adjacent to Balurmat in Nur Hossain Chairmanghata area of ward number 19 of Baklia police station. In this incident, the child’s father Mehedi Hasan filed a case with Baklia police station as the plaintiff.

After receiving the responsibility of the investigation, the investigation officer of the case, Police Inspector Tanvir Ahmed, inspected the scene, collected evidence, recorded statements of witnesses and collected medical documents.
