Tk 72.5 lakh heroin seized from Dhumketu Express

The Rajshahi Railway Police Station under the Pakshi Railway District has seized 725 grams of heroin from the Dhumketu Express during an anti-narcotics operation. According to police, the estimated market value of the recovered drugs is approximately Tk 7.25 million (Tk 72.5 lakh).

Police sources said that the operation was conducted on Sunday (June 7) at around 1:30 pm under the directives of Pakshi Railway District Superintendent of Police Md. Mehedi Hasan and the supervision of the Officer-in-Charge of Rajshahi Railway Police Station. The special drive targeted narcotics trafficking and smuggling on the Dhumketu Express train traveling from Dhaka to Rajshahi.

During the operation, police recovered a blue travel bag with a white handle from the upper luggage rack above seats 39 and 40 in the train’s Extra-2 coach. The bag appeared to have been abandoned.

In the presence of witnesses, the bag was searched, and eight packets containing a total of 725 grams of heroin were found concealed inside using a sophisticated hiding method.

According to police, seven packets contained 100 grams of heroin each, totaling 700 grams, while the remaining packet contained 25 grams. The narcotics were seized and recorded in an official seizure list.

Rajshahi Railway Police said a case is being filed under the relevant provisions of the Narcotics Control Act, and further legal proceedings are underway.
