Newborns’ death

Ad-din hospital to pay Tk80 lakh to each family

The authorities of Ad-din Hospital have decided to provide Tk 8 million (Tk 80 lakh) in compensation to each of the six families whose newborns died at the hospital’s Moghbazar branch in Dhaka.

The compensation package was finalized through discussions between the affected families and hospital authorities, facilitated by lawyer Mohammad Shishir Monir.

Speaking on Sunday, Shishir Monir said the agreed compensation amount would be paid in addition to a range of support measures that had already been announced by the hospital.

“The other benefits previously announced for the affected families will also remain in place,” he said.
The announcement follows a press conference held by the hospital authorities on Saturday, during which they pledged long-term support for the bereaved families.

Under the package, the families will receive lifelong free medical treatment at Ad-din Hospital and its affiliated institutions. The benefit will cover parents, siblings and children of the affected families, although the cost of medicines will not be included.

The hospital has also promised educational assistance for family members. Eligible relatives will be able to study without tuition fees at educational institutions operated by Ad-din, subject to meeting admission requirements. For medical colleges and other high-cost academic programmes, special scholarships or tuition waivers will be provided.

In addition, qualified members of the affected families will be offered employment opportunities within Ad-din institutions based on their educational qualifications and suitability.

The deaths of the six newborns at the Moghbazar hospital sparked widespread concern and prompted discussions between the hospital management and the victims’ families over compensation and future support.

Hospital authorities said the measures were intended to provide financial relief and long-term assistance to the families affected by the tragic incident.
