DG seeks to protect fire service image

The Director General of the Fire Service and Civil Defence on Sunday called on officials and employees at all levels to perform their duties with transparency and discipline in order to preserve and enhance the reputation of the organisation.

Director General Brigadier General Muhammad Jahed Kamal, NDC, AFWC, PSC, made the remarks while addressing an organised Darbar at the Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters at 10:00am on June 7.

The programme was attended in person by directors, project directors and officials and employees working in Dhaka.

Deputy directors of divisional offices, district-level officials and Fire Service station personnel from across the country joined the event virtually from their respective workplaces.

At the beginning of the programme, Director (Training, Planning and Development) Lt Col M A Azad Anwar, PSC, formally handed over the Darbar proceedings to the Director General. A recitation from a religious scripture was held before the session commenced.

Welcoming participants, the Director General instructed all members of the force to maintain service discipline and carry out their responsibilities honestly and transparently to uphold the organisation’s honour.

He particularly stressed the importance of ensuring that the upcoming recruitment process remains as transparent and corruption-free as previous recruitment exercises.

He urged all personnel to cooperate in safeguarding the integrity of the process and instructed members of the force to remain vigilant so that no one becomes involved in any form of irregularity related to recruitment activities.

The Director General also emphasised the need to ensure that all orders and directives issued by the department regarding recruitment are properly communicated to personnel at every level of the organisation.

Highlighting administrative reforms, he said transparency established in transfer processes throughout the Fire Service and Civil Defence must be maintained and sought sincere cooperation from all members of the force in this regard.

He further directed personnel to comply with existing laws and regulations while using social media.

He warned that legal action would be taken against any member found involved in publishing content that damages the reputation of the organisation or violates the law.

During the session, the Director General also outlined various welfare initiatives undertaken for members of the force.

Following his address, he listened to opinions and observations from officials and employees participating both physically and virtually and responded to a range of questions raised by them.
