2 killed in separate lightning incidents in Barishal

A youth and a farmer were killed in separate lightning strikes in Barishal and Barguna districts on Friday (June 5).

A youth named Tanvir Khan (18), son of Wasim Khan, tragically died after being struck by lightning in Uttar Shihipasha village of Gaila Union under Agailjhara Upazila in Barishal district on Friday morning.
Family sources said Tanvir Khan was working in a fish enclosure next to his house when the incident occurred.

At around 11:30 a.m. on Friday, rain with thunder began, and a powerful lightning strike hit him directly, leaving him severely burned.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Barguna Sadar Police Station, Mohammad Abdul Alim, confirmed the incident.
Later, locals rescued him and took him to Agailjhara Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor, Dr. Shahnaz Parvin Setu, declared him dead. The deceased had recently passed his SSC examination.

In a separate incident on the same day, three women were injured by a lightning strike in Baromagra village of the same upazila while working at home. The injured are Seema (30), wife of Bijon Taruwar; Bithi Biswas (22), wife of Atul Biswas; and Shivani Madhu (25), wife of Palash Madhu. Family members rescued them and admitted them to the Upazila Health Complex.

A farmer named Mohiuddin (40), son of Sekandar Mia, died in a lightning strike while working in a field in Sadar Upazila of Barguna district.

The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. on Friday (June 5) in the Mastuktana area of Ward No. 9 under Burirchar Union.

Local resident Abdur Rahman said the injured man was quickly taken to Barguna General Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
