3-day agricultural entrepreneur fair begins in Sylhet
Sylhet Divisional Commissioner Mashiur Rahman inaugurated the three-day Agricultural Entrepreneur Fair-2026 on Thursday, highlighting the government’s efforts to strengthen the agricultural sector and support local entrepreneurs.
The event, organised by the Department of Agricultural Marketing at the Mohammad Ali Gymnasium of Sylhet District Stadium in Rikabi Bazar, aims to connect farmers with consumers, promote value addition, and provide guidance for aspiring agricultural entrepreneurs.
Speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony, which was presided over by Julia Jasmine Mili, Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Marketing, Divisional Commissioner Md. Mashiur Rahman emphasized the vital role of agriculture in everyday life.
“We cannot survive without agriculture. To live, we first need food, which is produced by farmers in the agricultural sector,” he said. Addressing entrepreneurs, he added, “Those who want to succeed must work according to a proper plan. Without a plan, success does not come. We must move toward the right goals and develop ourselves as successful entrepreneurs.”
Special guests at the event included Humaira Jahan Rupu, Joint Director of the Sylhet office of Bangladesh Bank; Dr. Md. Mosharraf Hossain, Additional Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension, Sylhet; Mohammad Faizur Rahman Shahir, Chief Regional Manager of Bangladesh Krishi Bank; and Sohel Haolder, General Manager of BSCIC.
In her presidential speech, Deputy Director Julia Jasmine Mili said that the Department of Agricultural Marketing serves as a bridge between farmers and consumers, enabling farmers to bring their products to market efficiently. She noted that the department trains farmers on value addition and helps ensure they receive fair prices for their produce.
The department also works to ensure safe marketing of agricultural products and provides facilities for transportation and distribution. Prices of agricultural commodities are published on the department’s website, allowing farmers to make informed decisions about selling their products.
She added that the department’s initiatives help farmers transition into agricultural entrepreneurs. “Today’s agricultural entrepreneur fair is organized to support those who work with agricultural products and aspire to become successful traders,” she said.
Officials from various government and private organizations, entrepreneurs, and representatives of electronic and print media were also present at the event.
After the inauguration, the Divisional Commissioner visited and inspected each stall at the fair, observing the diverse agricultural products and innovations on display.
