Four more children die amid measles outbreak

Bangladesh’s measles outbreak continues to pose a serious public health challenge, with four more children dying from measles and measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours until 8:00am on Thursday, according to official data.

The latest deaths have pushed the total number of fatalities since March 15, 2026 to 605, figures released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) show.

Among the newly reported deaths, one was confirmed as being caused by measles, while the remaining three were categorised as suspected measles-related deaths.

As a result, the cumulative number of confirmed measles deaths has risen to 91, while suspected measles deaths now stand at 514.

The outbreak also continued to spread during the reporting period, with 1,136 new suspected cases recorded in the last 24 hours. This has increased the total number of suspected infections to 75,708.

Meanwhile, the DGHS reported 69 additional confirmed measles cases over the same period, bringing the overall number of laboratory-confirmed infections to 9,260.

Health data further show that since March 15, a total of 61,194 suspected measles patients have been admitted to hospitals across the country.

Of those hospitalised, 57,043 patients have recovered, according to the DGHS.
