Govt steps up capital’s cleanliness drive

In a move aimed at improving public health and urban living conditions, the government has directed the two Dhaka city corporations to strengthen sanitation services by deploying cleaning staff in two daytime shifts and ensuring quicker removal of waste across the capital.

The directive was issued on Wednesday by the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives to the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).

According to the ministry, maintaining a clean and livable capital requires the prompt collection and disposal of garbage and other waste generated throughout Dhaka.

The ministry noted that large numbers of people gather in different parts of the city during the daytime, increasing the need for enhanced sanitation measures to maintain cleanliness and improve the urban environment.

To address the issue, the government instructed both city corporations to carry out cleaning and waste management activities through the deployment of sanitation workers in two daytime shifts.

The initiative is intended to strengthen cleanliness operations, ensure the timely removal of waste and contribute to the development of a cleaner city.
