Women Entrepreneurs to drive dairy sector growth
The government plans to expand domestic milk production with a view to reducing dependence on imports and eventually entering the export market, State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku said on Monday.
Speaking at a discussion marking World Milk Day 2026 at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB), the minister said greater participation of women in dairy farming would play a crucial role in achieving the country’s dairy development goals.
He said the government would take necessary measures to support dairy farmers and create more employment opportunities for women in the sector, describing female entrepreneurs as a driving force behind economic growth.
“The country’s economy becomes stronger when women are economically empowered,” he said, adding that women are making increasingly significant contributions to dairy farming and other productive sectors.
The minister stressed the need for enhanced training and institutional support for women involved in dairy production, noting that successful entrepreneurs contribute directly to national economic development.
This year’s World Milk Day was observed under the theme, “Women Dairy Farmers: Driving Development Forward.”
Salauddin expressed optimism that Bangladesh could further strengthen its dairy industry through coordinated efforts by farmers, entrepreneurs and government agencies.
As part of the day’s programme, the minister distributed milk among orphan students at a madrasa on the premises of the Department of Livestock Services. A rally was also held in the capital to raise awareness about the importance of milk production and nutrition.
Separately, the Veterinary Doctors’ Association of Bangladesh organised a milk distribution programme for underprivileged people in front of the Livestock Building.
