Today Marks the 6th Death Anniversary of Bir Muktijoddha Md. Imamul Kabir Shanto
Today, 30 May 2026, marks the 6th death anniversary of late Bir Muktijoddha Md. Imamul Kabir Shanto, the Founder Chairman of Shanto-Mariam Foundation, Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology, and Sundarban Courier Service Pvt. Ltd.
On 30 May 2020, this distinguished son of the nation passed away at Dhaka CMH after being infected with the coronavirus (COVID-19). He was laid to rest with state honors later that afternoon at Banani Graveyard in the capital. He was 66 years old at the time of his death. He was born on 11 February 1954 in Nakhalpara, Dhaka, into a respected Muslim family.
In his personal and professional life, Bir Muktijoddha Md. Imamul Kabir Shanto was a successful entrepreneur, education enthusiast, and renowned philanthropist. At the age of only 17, he took part in the Liberation War of Bangladesh. After the war, with the vision of promoting practical education and employment opportunities in the economically fragile newly independent Bangladesh, he established numerous institutions, including Shanto-Mariam Foundation, Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology, Sundarban Courier Service Pvt. Ltd., the daily newspaper Ajker Prottasha, Shanto-Mariam Academy of Creative Technology, Shanto-Mariam Institute of Creative Technology, Shanto-Mariam School of Creative Technology, and Shantonibas — a rehabilitation center for children and the elderly — along with several mosques, madrasas, and orphanages.
To commemorate the occasion, as in previous years, various programs were organized under the initiative of Dr. Md. Ahsanul Kabir, Chairman of Shanto-Mariam Foundation and Sundarban Courier Service Pvt. Ltd. and Member of the Board of Trustees of Shanto-Mariam University, along with eminent artist Professor Mostafizul Haque, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Shanto-Mariam University. The programs included the laying of floral wreaths at the late leader’s grave, completion of Quran recitation, special prayers, and other commemorative activities.
